Obtaining the JKC Certified Export Pedigree

(1) Return home with a dog owned during your stay in Japan.
(2) Importing a dog from Japan into your country.

For the case (1) and (2) above, if you wish to obtain the JKC Certified Export Pedigree of your dog, please be sure to ask the place/person of purchase to issue the Certified Export Pedigree in your name. Please note that you cannot apply for the Certified Export Pedigrees directly to the JKC from outside Japan.

In addition, when you import Japanese breeds such as Akita and Shiba from Japan, they may hold the pedigree issued by a canine registry organization other than the JKC, e.g. Akita Inu Preservation Society (AKIHO), Nihonken Hozonkai (NIPPO), etc.

If your dog holds a pedigree issued by a canine registry organization that can be registered with the JKC, it is possible to be issued the JKC Certified “Appendix” Export Pedigree of your dog at the same time as transferring its registration to the Appendix to the JKC Studbook from the original organization.

At that time, your dog registered with the JKC is given the JKC Appendix registration number, and the JKC Appendix pedigree will include its date of birth, coat color and registration number with another organization; however, no information other than the name is listed for the ancestor dogs. This applies even if the ancestors include a JKC registered dog, so the information such as the JKC registration number is not included as it is based on the pedigree of the original organization.

For more information on Appendix, please check the FCI website (https://www.fci.be).
Also, depending on the kennel club of entry, dogs with the JKC Certified “Appendix” Export Pedigree may not be registered, so please check with the FCI member organization in your country on how they handle Appendix dogs.
